The BCCI released an official statement saying,
“Team India all-rounder Washington Sundar experienced pain in his lower rib area while bowling in the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara on Sunday. He will undergo various scans soon. Following this, the BCCI medical team will seek expert opinion.”
Threat to his place in the T20 World Cup
The BCCI’s statement clearly indicates that the medical team will continue to investigate Sundar’s injury. If the scans reveal further complications, he could be dropped from the 2026 T20 World Cup squad. Recently, Rishabh Pant also suffered a rib injury and was ruled out of the ODI series. Sundar also has a side strain, and the severity of the injury will determine whether he plays in the World Cup or stays home.
