Bangladesh Issues Statement and declares a step out from Worl dcup.
In its press release, Bangladesh stated,
“The ICC has refused to move our matches out of India. We are concerned about the future of cricket as its popularity is declining day by day, and 200 million people are being excluded from the sport. If our country does not participate in the Olympics despite cricket being included, it will be a defeat for the ICC.
We want to play the World Cup and will continue our discussions with the ICC, but we will not play the World Cup in India. We will continue our fight because the decisions taken in the meeting were shocking. The Mustafizur Rahman case is not an isolated incident; all the decisions were made solely by India.”
T20 World Cup 2026: What is the controversy? Why Bangladesh Bycott T20 World Cup?
Following strong protests, the BCCI instructed KKR to remove Mustafizur Rahman from IPL 2026, after which the franchise released him. The Bangladesh Cricket Board was furious over Mustafizur’s removal, and subsequently, Bangladesh decided not to play the T20 World Cup 2026 in India.
However, on January 21, the ICC clearly told Bangladesh that it would have to play its matches in India as per the schedule; otherwise, Bangladesh would have to withdraw its name. Now, Bangladesh has clearly refused to play in India. Therefore, Bangladesh is out of the T20 World Cup.
