Michael Bracewell to captain the ODI team against India
The New Zealand Cricket Board announced its squads for the upcoming ODI and T20 series against India on Tuesday, December 23. New Zealand has selected a mix of experienced and new players in its squad for the tour of India. Kyle Jamieson and Mitchell Santner are making a comeback to the New Zealand team. Jamieson has been selected for both the ODI and T20 series, while Santner has only been included in the T20 squad.
Santner was out of the team for a long time due to a groin injury. In Santner’s absence, Michael Bracewell will captain the Kiwi team in the ODI series. Experienced players like Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Will Young, and Henry Nicholls are also part of the team. Meanwhile, Central Districts’ left-arm spinner Jayden Lennox has been given his first opportunity in the New Zealand T20 team.
Kane Williamson is not part of the ODI team.
New Zealand’s star batsman Kane Williamson will not be seen in the ODI series against India. Williamson is unavailable for this series due to his participation in the SA20 league. Meanwhile, Test captain Tom Latham will remain in New Zealand due to the birth of his third child and will therefore miss the ODI series against India. Matt Henry is also recovering from injury and is consequently not in the ODI squad, but he may return for the T20 series.
Additionally, Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner, and Mark Chapman have also been ruled out of the ODI squad due to injuries, although Chapman may be available for the T20s. Mitch Hay will keep wickets in the ODIs, while Devon Conway will be the wicketkeeper in the T20 Internationals.
